It is a retinoid, which means it is derived from vitamin A. This medication works by reducing the size of oil glands in the skin, decreasing oil production, and preventing clogged pores, which are the primary causes of acne.

It is typically taken as an oral capsule and is known for its effectiveness in clearing up acne, but it also comes with potential serious side effects and risks, including dry skin, increased sensitivity to the sun, and more severe issues such as potential harm to an unborn baby if taken during pregnancy.
